Many S.O.S. ills hare been sent out. It is now revealed that the entire crew i 23 of tbe Jonge Jacobus, a Dutch essel reported to have sunk after rounding on the Berlengas Islands, off •ortugal, was drowned. The last radio rireless message from the vessei was: — We are taking to the lifeboats." The Jritish steamer Achilles answered the 5.0.5., l>ut could not reach the Jonge Facobus. The Brazilian vessel Santos, which sent out an S.O.S. to the effect that she was drifting with disabled engines toward the Berlengas Islands, was found badly damaged and was towed ?afely to port. The German motor tanker Olifer from Hamburg is reported to have sunk in the North Sea with the captain and a ?rew of 17. She sent out a distress call tvhen great masses of ice crashed on to iier. The liner Europa hurried to her issistance a:id picked up three survivors From icefloes.
