AWARDS.
In recent issues of the "Star~ a lot of comment has been made on the action of the Hon. H. T. Armstrong in varying the freezing workers' award, and Messrs. Leeson. of Morrinsville. and Ciillen. of Maungaturoto. have been especially severe in their comment.*. Each «-f these gentlemen lias evidently lieen lile-ved with a very convenient memory. It must still br> fresh in their minds that the Forlx**-Coates .Administration varied not only one. but every award in existence, when they issued a general o:-ler reducing wages by 10 per cent, and a pc-usal of the papers at that time does not sh iw that Mr. Leeson or Mr. C'nllen were very mrch upset over that particular variation of Ari itration Court award--. Probably they were empinvers of labour at tlio time, ami the fact that they pocketed H> per cent of their irap* bill i::ade the cut a brilliant |>iw of legislation. The "pacTcdnes*"' or otherwise of awards evidently does not worry them when they win. but when the other :<•!!.>\v ha« hi* turn, then we hear ahniii "dangerou* precedents"' and a lot of other wurn-out pliraap* that have lost their nine year* a-jn. lint are still being used for political mirpiww.
