BOXING.
GILDO'S FIRST FIGHT. i MEETS STOCK THIS EVENING I '- j The boxing match between Al Stock, of Hastings, and Young Gildo, the Filipino, is expected to attract a large crowd to the Town Hall. Not for a very long time has there been so much interest displayed by the general public in the training work of both contestants. Young Gildo gave a remarkable exhibition at the Public Hall, Qtahuhu, on Thursday evening. It was originally intended that the display should be given in the Otahuhu Swimming Club's roehis, but, in view of the exceptional interest, it was decided to use the larger hall, where there was a i large and enthusiastic crowd. The little ] Filipino is a crowd pleaser. His'smile is j infectious, while hie condition, as revealed ]in his work-outs, confirms the fact that ihe is still the fact-moving, hard-hitting ! boxer who has attracted large crowds in i every country where he has boxed. The Auckland public will have the opportunity to-night of seeing a fighter who has met and defeated the best Australia could produce—one who has defeated a world's champion in Midget Wolgast. and a pre- ; sent world's title-contender, Pablo Dano. 1 Al Stock is a rugged, hard-hitting lightweight, who can be relied upon to make . a fight interesting as well as strenuous for his opponent. He has not had the experience of the visitor, but his recent victories over Steve Hughes, whom he out, Neville Mudgway and Clarrie Rayner, mark him as one of New Zeaj land's best boys. Stock has improved ■ with every contest and each has been ,-' full of thrills an:l action-. Tlic principal bout ,u-iil be preceded by a number of amateur contests.
