DRIVING FITNESS.
SUSPECTED INTOXICATION. DOCTOR SUGGESTS TESTS. (By Tfclegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. "As far as we doctors are concerned it would be a good thing toward determining a man's fitness to drive if in doubtful cases of intoxication the suspected person was allowed to drive his car," said Dr. A. A. Tennent when giving evidence as a witness in the Magistrate's I Court before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in a case in which a taxi proprietor was charged with being found intoxicated in charge of a motor car. The Magistrate: It appears to be the only acid test. There would be no danger because the driving would be done under supervision. Dr. Tennent: Doctors would be grateful for this opportunity. The Magistrate: Of course, where a case is truly on the border line, the verdict must be in the defendant's favour. After hearing the evidence the magistrate dismissed the case, saying there was a doubt. j
