; SOME SHARES LOWER. I BANKS AND BREWERIES STRONG. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCIftjRCH, thie day. Several shares dropped in value oil the Exchange and quotations showed some diffidence on the part of buyers to pay the rates which have been ruling in recent weeks. Banks and breweries, however, provided an exception. Goveiujment stocks were quiet. Tlie higher dividend announcement ofthe Bank of Xew South Wales brought no improvement in quotations, seller asking £3.5 12/ti, buyers being at £35. Commercials moved up again and at 19/10 were "2d higher than yesterday, the market closing Id on either side of the sale pried. Buyers of New Zealands and Nationals offered 40/9 and 63/ respectively. The brewery section was given very strong support. Dominions were wante.i at 42, 7, New Zealands at 07/3 and Staples at 41, 6. There were no sellers of Staples. Miscellaneous industrials had a fa;r amount of business, but G. J. Coles confirmed tlir , easier tendency with sales 3J down at 'M/'6. Electrolytic Zinc ordinaries dropped 4d to 50/, with later sellers at sj/;?. Broken Hille 6old at 81-', compared with last business at 81/ G. British Tobaccos were quoted wide from buyers at 50/6 to sellers at 51/6. Dunlops were steady and Hume Pipes gained a fraction to buyers at 21/6 and sellers at 21/10.
