WORK AT TE RAPA. MANGUKAHA GOES WELL. DARK SHADOW PLEASES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HAMILTON', this day. The course proper, 33ft out, provided splendid going at Te Rapa this morning, when a number of candidates for the Tukapuna meeting were sent against the watch.
I Prince Acre, assisted by Merial over the first three furlongs in 38s, got to the end jof half a mile in 51Vid. Prince Acre is coming to hand nicely. Star Turn was slightly in front of Mark's Gift at the conclusion of half a mile in 54 4-ss. Dark i Shadow, unaccompanied, hit out over a mile and a quarter, but was timed only , over a round, which he negotiated in : 2.3V4. He ran his first four furlongs in. ! 55%5, five in l.S 1 /*;, six in 1.21-4-5, and 'seven in 1.34 4-5. It was a good effort. • Vera Acre galloped lazily over seven furI longs in 1.40 2-5, her initial half-mile j occupying 59 3-ss. Sinking Fund was j doing better than Kanapa over the decidi ing stages of a circuit in 2.6. Margukaha ' drew away from Winlona in the early ! stages of a five-furlong trial and was .several lengths in front of her companion |at the end. The full distance was cut , Out in 1.5 1-5. the first three furlongs taking 37%«. and the half-mile 51%5. ! Awatea Princess finished in front of Young Padilon at the completion of half a mile in 535. The two-year-old Awatea j Pr»neess is to have, her first race in the Calliope Handicap on Friday. H. Long has been engaged to ride ! Lornaere and Awatea Princess.
