SEA SERPENTS.

The sea serpent is probably an entirely mythical crcation, but that does not say that there are not serpents in the sea. In eastern waters they abound, although they do not grow to anything like the size we associate with the picturesque sea serpent. The sea snake can travel through the water very rapidly, as it is generally equipped with a paddle-shaped tail. Generally they are poisonous, and are formed so that they can hold the victim until it expires. They are the prey of certain sea birds, who carry them off to be devoured, such as other birds do with worms or caterpillars.
