A GARBO INCIDENT.
Greta Garibo's i first love scene with handsome Robert Taylor, her new leading man, literally was staged in a blaze of glory. Introduced by the director, George Cukor, Garbo greeted her leading man with a smile and a formal "How do you do?" Then they rehearsed together their first scene for "Camille"—a meeting in the box of a Paris theatre in 1847. When rehearsals were .completed, Cukor called for a "take." Garbo was seated in an upper box. Taylor was leaning over the back of her chair, his whisperings brushing her hair.
"Fate must have had something to do with this, to-night," Taylor confided to her. "I've hoped for it so long .. ." The dialogue continued. The remainder of the sound stage was silent as a sepulchre. "And now that you've met me?" Garbo asked. "Xow I know lam in love with you. I have always been since that first day. . . ."
At that moment there came a blinding flash over the heads of Garbo and Taylor. The stage was filled by a shower of vari-coloured stars, raining down upon the set. Taylor drew Garbo beneath the protective ceiling of the theatre box. The lights went out and the stage was in darkness. But only a big fuse box known as a "spider" in the high reaches of the stage had blown out, end the scene was resumed a few minutes later.
