Put half a pound of good white soap and a penny packet of powdered borax into a saucepan. Fill up with two quarts of water, bring to the boil, then po:ir into an earthenware jar and let it stand for two days, when it will become sol'd and hiay be cut with a spoon. On washing day, take two tablespoonfuls of the stiff jellied «oap for each gallon of hot water. A splendid latber will be the rcßijlt. The above quantity makes about l tour pounds.
