ROWING.
OTAGO DISAPPROVES.
METHOD OF SELECTION
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
DUNEDIN, this day
Dissatisfaction, first with the action of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association council's action in making the secretary a selector, and secondly with requesting nominations from each association for positions of three selectors to choose crews to go to the British Empire Games at Sydney, was expressed at a meeting of the Otago Rowing Association. With only three selectors and the secretary a Wellington man there was a possibility that South Island representatives might be excluded, and perhaps be prevented from sending a good crew or representatives to the Games.
Mr. Mackie was appointed Otago selector. It was reeolved, however, to notify provincial associations and the New Zealand Association that Otago was not in favour of a selection committee of four, and recommended that the committee should consist of two selectors from each of the North and South Islands, together with Mr. Bayfield, the secretary.
