GOOD PRICES AT MORRINSVILLE.
FAT PIGS IN KEEN DEMAND. (By Telegraph.-—Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, Friday. About 6000 sheep, mostly from East Coast districts, were included in the yardings at to-day's Morrinsville stock sales, which were the first of the new year. 1 here was also a record entry of pigs, with advanced prices ruling for fat pigs. Buyers of all classes of stock were present in large numbers and recent firm rates were maintained.
Farmers' Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd. At the yards of the Farmers' Co-opera-tive Auctioneering Company, Ltd., the advertised lines of store wetherri from the East Coast attracted a great deal of attention and sold readily at values in advance of late rates. A large offering of store lambs was also keenly sought after, a total clearance resulting at values in advance of late quotations. Fat sheep came forward in average numbers and competition was firm at late rates.
There was a record yarding of over 1200 pigs, both fat and store pens being filled to overflowing. Competition for all fat pigs was keen throughout, late advanced rates being easily maintained. Stores also sold readily, but weaners were more difficult to sell. However, vendors met the market and the whole yarding was disposed of at satisfactory prices. Ox beef was in short supply, most of the medium yarding of beef comprising medium fat cows and heifers. Competition for all classes was keen and a total clearance resulted at very firm values. A small offering of boner cows sold in advance of recent quotations, while a good yarding of potter bulls met with a ready sale, values in this section also showing an improvement. Quotations: —
Beef.—Medium Shorthorn steers, £9 19/ to £10 19/; medium Polled Angus heifers to £7; heavy fat cows, £8 10/ to £8 16/: medium fat cows and heifers, £6 to £7 7/; lighter cows, £4 16/ to £a 11/: forward and killable cows. £3 15/ to £4 12/; heavy boners. £2 10/ to £3 11/; lighter boners, 30/ to £2 5/: heavy potter bulls. £6 to £6 14/; medium bulls. £5 to £5 16/; light bulls, £3 15/ to £4 10/. Fat Sheep.—Heavy prime woolly hoggets to 32/3: prime wether hoggets, 25/9 to 27/6; forward-conditioned hoggets, 20/6: medium fat ewes, 20/1 to 21/; fat woolly ewes, 32/3; light fat lambs, 19/3 to 20/.
Store Sheep.—Store four-tooth wethers, up to 25/3; forward-conditioned two-tooth wethers. 23/3 to 24/9: smaller and poorerconditioned wethers. 18/ to 21/7; forwardconditioned woolly lambs. 18 4 to 18/10: best black-face store lambs. 16/3 to 16 5; woolly store lambs. 14/4 to 15/; smaller. 8/3 to 11/6; aged ewes, 15/6 to 18 '3; cull ewes, 8/3 to 9/.
Pigs.—Heavy choppers, £2 12/ to £3 1/; light choppers, 30/ to £2 8/; prime heavy baconers, £3 12/ to £3 1.5/ - medium baconers. £3 7/ to £3 10/; light bacon er#*. £3 to £3 3/: heavy porkers and unfinished baconers. £2 10/ to £2 12/: medium porkers. £2 3/ to £2 8/; light porkers, 36/ to £2 2/: best stores. 33/ to 37/; medium stores, 28' to 32/: slips. 18/ to 26/; best weaners, 15/ to 20/; smaller wean ere, 6/ to 12/6.
N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency. Beef was yarded in average numbers at the yards of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Companv, Ltd., the offering comprising mostly cow and heifer beef, for which there was a firm demand. I otter bulls were also in keen demand. Store lambs and wetheix met with a ready sale. A good entry of fat pigs evoked spirited competition. The entry of sheep at Dalgety and Company s yards included several lines of wel I -grown two-tooth ewes from wellknown Gisborne district stations. They were penned in good order and sold under keen bidding at up to 39 .3. Store lambs also sold well. All classes of beef were well represented, and were keenlv competed for by a full bench of buyers. \o ox beef was penned, but there was some irood quality cow and heiler beef.
