Sergeant Cullotty said accused had written letters to several people . in Kuawai, and had signed his name as a "detective.? He had also been caught by "a Hargavillcj night watehman'ctrying -the doors of shops. When questioned he said that he wns,a detective. Accused did not appear tor be quite' normal, added the sergeant. . .■•
■Messrs. A. C. Paul and H. H. Tonkin, •J.P.'s, granted a remand so that accused might be placed imder observation at the Auckland gaol.
