LEVY ON SHIPPING.
COST OF BUO7S AND BEACONS. British Official Wireless. RUGBY, January 5. An announcement by the Board of Trade regarding dues levied on shipping for upkeep of lights, buoys and beacons, in the Kingdom and the Irish Free State, says it was by competent authorities in conference on December 18 that it had become necessary to increase the rates by 25 per cent, the revenue obtainable at present rates having proved insufficient to meet the cost of maintenance, renewals and improvements. Accordingly an Order-in-CiAincil will be issued under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1898, bringing the proposed v increase into effect on April 1.
