POSITION AT WHITIANGA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspond»nt.) WHITIANGA, this day. Despite*- continuous rain on New Year's Day, flood waters in, the Whltianga district are gradually receding. To-day sunshine prevailed, and campers who had been driven to refuge in the public hall, the hospital and private homes were out and about again. The water supply was cut off when the dam became blocked, and vessels were used for catching Supplies of water from the roofs. A number of campers departed to-day, but with the return of sunshine many are remaining to enjoy the better conditions. Tons of wood were swept down the river, and local residents retrieved months' supplies of firing. Roads are again open, although New Year mail had to be transported over flooded areas by boat.
