ASTAIRE IS A STAR.
STARRING ROUS PROVIDED. Fred Aataire finally graduates to solo stardom in "A Damsel in Distress," a P. G. Wodehouse story recently purchased for the dancer by producer Pandro Berman. At about the tame time, partner Ginger Koger« achieves similar distinction in "Vivacious Lady," with Jimmy Stewart as her romantic opposite. Fred will probably be awarded at lea«t four ladies to twirl to prominence. George and Ira Gershwin, at preseSit working on the final Astaire-Rogero musical, "Stepping Toes," will also write songs and words for "A Damsel in Distress," which, if you remember your Wodehouse, concerns the erroneous belief of a foolish gentleman (Astaire) that the girl with whom he is in love adores him and dislikes the man she really loves—if that makes sense.
