DIVINE AUTHORSHIP.
OUR LIVES ARE PLANNED. An English Baptist minister, the Rev. H. L. Hemmens, said some time ago, in the course of a sermon on life as a tale that is told: I remember reading a review of an autobiography which said that the writer's life up to the sixtieth milestone, at which the volume was written, had been like a peaceful summer day. But that writer lived for many years after that, and they were mostly years of stress and strain until the last. In so far as we believe in the Divine authorship of life, we must accept the conclusion that our lives are planned. Only so can we face our days. For the flow of their tale is anything but regular. Obstacles check our course. Sickness breaks our journey. Financial calamity shatters our dreams of the future. Or joy lightens the sky. Success makes us glad. Honour encourages us. Surprises continually await us around the next corner. We may be set to new tasks. We may be placed in a different environment. We may be faced with great and baffling problems. But in them all we can say:— Father, I know that all my life Is portioned out for me. Tfcn changes that are sure to come I do not ask to see. I ask Thee for a quiet mind, Intent on pleasing Thee. Life's varied scheme and fitful scene are all part of the great plan. . They are our preparation, and schooling for higher service and loftier living. Discipline in the smaller sphere is "training for the larger stage. The task that is irksome now, the event that is mysterious, have their place in the order of events, and will some day be made clear
