CARNIVAL DANCE.

NEW YEAR'S EVE. i A FESTIVE SETTING. I The Masonic Hall, Princes Street, was beautifully decorated for the New Year's Evo dance given by Mr. A. Tuart, manager of the Grand Hotel, to guest.-, staying in the hotel and many wellknown citizens. Crimson carpets were laid at the entrance of the hall, and the gue6ts were protected from the rain by a large canopy of gaily-striped canvas. The walls of the hall were festooned with green and acarlet streamers, and interspersed with large silhouettes of well-known- figures. A mber- coloured lights threw a glow of gold over the dancers and an excellent orchestra supplied the latest dance airs. All kinds of Continental fuvours, including hats and caps, were distributed, and the New Year was marshalled in by a piper. Among the large number of guests were: —The Hon.
