STAMPEDE AT FIRE.
NEW TEAR'S EVE OUTBREAK. SYDNEY, January 1. The timber yards and joinery works of Beat Brothers, in the suburb of Waverley, were destroyed by fire last evening. The damage is estimated at £20,000. Hundreds of New Year's Eve revellers, who were watching the out break, stampeded in a narrow lane after an explosion and ncarlv 30 children were knocked to the ground and trampled on. A number were injured but none seriously.
