DOMAIN ARREST.
SLEEPING IN GRANDSTAND
BAKER REMANDED. Arrested in the grandstand in the Domain at 1.15 a.m. yesterday on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support, Walter Bernard Johnson, aged 25, baker, appeared in the Police Court before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., this morning. He pleaded not guilty. ; Constable Marley, describing the arrest of Johnson, said Johnson told him ho had nowhere to sleep and no money to pay for a bed. He also said lie had been existing by cadging food. Johnson added that he had been doing casual work. He had no relatives or friends in New Zealand.
. Johnson, told the magistrate that he had tried at' the placement office to obtain work, and had been offered a job at the fish markets to-morrow. "I was trying to hang on until a friend of mine arrived on a ship," he said: • Senior Sergeant Flanagan said Johnson arrived from Australia a few months ago. The magistrate remanded .Tolinson until December 21, and asked the police to make some further inquiries.
