INAUGURATION CEREMONY.

ELECTRICITY SWITCHED ON.

At the inauguration ceremony, hold in tlio Town Hall last evening, another chapter in the history of Warkworth was opened, when Mr. W. K. Leigliton, chairman of the Waitemata Electric Power Board, switched on tho electric current supplying the whole of the town district. Mr. L. A. Petherick, chairman of tho Warkworth Town Hoard, presided, and extended a welcome to tho chairman and members of the Waitemata Electric Power Board, the chairman and members of the Rodney County Council and a number of other local body olliccrs. Mr. Petherick stated that the progress of the town district in the past decade had 1 mm 1 n most marked. Permits for I building svalued at over £20,000 had been issued by the Warkworth Town Board during the past IS months, which is an increase of -2 per cent on the capital valuation as at the end of the last financial year. lie congratulated the Power Board on the expeditious manner ill which it had carried out the reticulation work, and paid a tribute in this connection to the manager of the board, Mr. A. Main, and the engineer, Mr. C. M. Gray. Leighton congratulated the people of Warkworth on having the electric power in the district, and said that if the lighting was not immediately up to standard it could be attributed to the lack of necessary switch gear which could not be supplied by the manufacturers in England owing to their concentration on -armaments. One reason for the board's being up to time with the supply of power was the good work done "by the board's engineer and manager. Mr. A. J. Murdock, former M.P. for Marsden, congratulated the members on their initiative. Other speakers were Mr. W. K. Becroft, chairman of the Rodney County Council, Mr. W. J. Scholium, and Mr. A. J. Warin. .Subsequently the Warkworth Town Board entertained about GO guests to supper, during which a number of toasts were honoured.
