FIXED PRICES.
CONDEMNED BY FARMERS. EAST TAMAKI RESOLUTIONS. Several resolutions dealing with fixed prices and compensated prices for dairy produce were passed at a meeting of the East Taniaki branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. .Among other things the need for farmers to organise in order to ensure proper representation in Parliament, was stressed. The resolutions read as follows:—(1) We condemn the fixed price principle, believing in open markets with reciprocal trade agreements and tariff reform, to favour Empire trade. Any further necessity of adjusting farmers' finance can adequately bo achieved by , the Government making money avail- ■ able at lower rates of interest, and . adjusting mortgages accordingly, without otherwise interfering with capital , investments. - ; (2) That the compensated price , accepts Government control of the dairy ( industry through the fixed price medium, -i and thus by assuming dictatorial powers , usurps the democratic prerogative of the , industry to control itself. ( (3) That the compensated price would result in currency inflation, and any ; manipulation of currency by the present < Socialist Government would not. be to f the advantage of the primary producers. (4) That this branch urges upon the New Zealand Farmers' Union the necessity of organising an intense campaign! to direct the attention of primary producers to their responsibilities in { government and endeavours to secure the proper representation of the farming f community in Parliament. id "• ifi
