WOOL KEEPS UP.
WELLINGTON SALE. WIDESPREAD BUYING. "STEADY BUT NOT EXCITED." CBy Telegraph .—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Buyers were on the bench in full strength at to-day's Wellington wool sale, with Bradford, the Continent, United States, .Japan, Australia and New Zealand well represented. Bidding was steady hut not quite so excited as at some other sales, but there were practically no passings. Prices were on a parity with those at Napier and showed the market to be strong, especially for average crossbred. Typical prices early in the sale were: —Crossbred, 13£ d to 14|d; medium crossbred, 14d to Kid; fine crossbred, l."i:Jd to ITid; super-crossbred, 18d to 22(1; lialfbred, 17d to 22d; Southdown, 20Jd to 2"ifd; Corriedale, 17 ill to 20d; Lincoln, 15} dto I'Sjd; I'oinney, 14d to IGd; lambs', JOd to ]■>< 1: bellies and pieces, lOd to 11 3d to J 2A<l; necks, 13jd to ICJd. Slacker for Low Qualities. Towards lunch it became apparent that lower qualities were in rather slacker demand than at the opening. Passings, though not many, were becoming more frequent. The market, in fact, was somewhat erratic. America was predominant in the demand for higher qualities. Local manufacturers were active competitors for high quality wools, and one company paid up to 24id for a line of halfbred.
