ATTACKED BY CATERPILLARS. SAWFLIES FROM CHILE. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. The assistant director of the Cawthron Institute, Dr. Miller, visited Wansranui to-day and inspected the observation colony of Chilean sawflies which he established 011 Mr. T. Curries Brunswick property last winter. Tlie insects fire now in the cateipilla.l stage, and could be seen attacking tlie huthvai (bidibidi) plants. Dr. Miller stated that he was well satisfied with the progress of the colony and confident that the insects would efficiently carry out the purpose for which they were imported from Chile, namely, the destruction of the liutiwai pest. Dr. Miller went on to Eltliam to inspect the colony which lie liberated on Mr. Hardwick Smith's property.
