WIDOW'S ARREST.
ON SERIOUS CHARGE. POLICE OBTAIN 1 REMAND. MAGISTRATE REFUSES BAIL. Yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock Detective-Sergeant A. G. AlcHugli, accompanied by Constable Surgenor and a police matron, visited a liouse at 481, New North Road, and as a result of inquiries arrested Louisa Beutli, a widow, aged GO, later in the afternoon. This morning Louisa ±>euth appeared before Air. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in tlie Police Court, charged, yesterday, with using an instrument upon a girl with intent to procure a certain result. Detective-Sergeant McHugh applied for a remand for one week. Mr. Robinson, of Air. R. A. Singer's olhce, said he did not object to the remand. Accused, he added, was in poor health. "I would ask for bail as the young lady is in 110 danger," said counsel. "That is hardly correct," said Detec-tive-Sergeant McHugh. '"The young lady is at present in hospital and is not out of danger." Mr. Wilson granted the remand and refused the application for bail.
