HOUSING SURVEYS.
LOCAL.BODY INVESTIGATIONS. ISSUE OF REGULATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Housing survey regulations issued last night provide that every local authority which desires to make a housing survey of a defined area within its district to the exclusion of other areas shall, not later than January 15, pr not later than one month after the Act lias been applied to the local authority, make application to the Minister for approval of the proposed defined area. The Minister may, in his discretion; refuse approval, or before granting it, he may require the local authority to make such alterations to the boundaries as lie directs. Every housing survey is to contain particulars as to the condition regarding employment of the occupier of everj dwelling unit included in the survey; the reasons for the occupier living in any particular locality in the district in preference to any other locality in it; and the unimproved value and the value of improvements of premises comprising every dwellinghouse included in the survey. The local authority must also prepare a housing survey statement showing the position as disclosed by the housing survey. Bv means of colouied maps, the local authority must show dwellinghouses which are overcrowded, dwellinghouses which should be demolished oil account of deterioration, dwellingliouses which have deteriorated, but can be renovated at reasonable expense, and. dwellingliouses which are satisfactory. The statement and map must be submitted to the Minister before July 31, 1937, or on a day the Minister may notify to the local authority if the Act is applied to that authority.
