MILFORD BATHS.
OPEN-AIR SWIMMING. CEREMONY NEXT SATURDAY. Tlie new open-air swimming bath built at the northern end of Milford Beach by the Devonport Steam Ferry Company is likely to prove highly popular with local residents and visiting holiday-makers this summer. The company has- spared no effort in making the bath the finest of its type in Auckland, and in the future, no doubt, it will be the scene of many spectacular aquatic carnivals. It has long been recognised .that many promising young swimmers in the district have not had the facilities for serious training for races, and this addition to the amenities of the district has already proved highly popular. Although the bath has not yet been officially opened, many residents of the locality have already taken advantage of the opportunity to swim there. The official opening ceremony has been set down for Saturday -next, when speeches will be made by members of local bodies. Work has been proceeding week on the installation of chutes, diving boards and other equipment. The actual length of the bath is 480 ft and the width is 100 ft, A powerful pump has been fitted by the company to bring water in from the open sea. Water from the neighbouring creek will not be used. Construction work on the baths has occupied approximately a year.
