TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH.j BUYERS MORE CONFIDENT. I (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day, A more active call was experienced 011 the Exchange this morning, when over £2000 worth of Government stocks and bonds changed hands, and all sections, of the market enjoyed freer business. A alues for Government issues remained weak, 1916 bonds in the first local sales for some time showing a reduction of £2 5/. 1949 stock was 12/6 lower than at the last sale. Among, the banks, Commercials were Id higher, and New Zealands had buyers at yesterday's sale price of £2 1/9, and sellers 2d away. Unions were weaker, with sellers at £10 6/6. The meat section was less active.. New Zealand Refrigerating were asked for, 19/9 for the fully paids and 9/9 for the contributings, but with 110 business. New Zealand Breweries gained another 3d. but Tooth's, with sellers at £2 13/9. showed a further easing. Sellers predominated in the miscellaneous division, though some buying quotations indicated more confidence than in recent days. British Tobaccos had buyers at £2 6/1. Woohvorths (N.Z.), made a sharp recovery of 7/6 to £6 15/, but 011 the other hand Dunlops eased Id. Electrolytic Zinc preferences were 3d cheaper. Broken Hill Proprietary's failed to check the easing tendency, selling down to £3 18/9 for the fully paids and £3 7/ for the contributings. Mining shares were fairly active, Barrytowns and Mount Morgans rising by 1/6 and 3d respectively.
