FISHING SEASON.
ROTORUA DISTRICT LAKES. GOOD SPORT IN TARAWERA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) v ROBORUA, this day. Northerly winds have seriously affected fishing conditions in the Rofcorua lakes area during the past few days and not a great number of good ba<*s have been reported, with the exception of Lake Tarawera, where for a period the fish were taking particularly well. An overseas party comprising Colonel Wall, Colonel Audain, Major Crailsham and Miss Courtney Hood did particularly well fishing off the high cliffs on the Rotomahana arm of the lake, where on successive days they took very good bags. Their best bag was taken on Saturday, when they took 24 fish for the day, 18 of these being in very good condition. The fish average'd over five pounds.
Two local, anglers' fishing in the same vicinity took thirteen fish on Saturday afternoon and another local party of three took eight. Rotoiti fishing is reported to be difficult, and although Lake Rotorua has been yielding good bags to trolling parties, the weather conditions have been, against fly fishermen. The lakeis at present one and a half inches higher than it was at the end of November last year, when it reached the peak level for a number of years, and this has made wading conditions difficult.
