POSITION IN AUSTRALIA.

DANGER OF HIGH RATES. The current season has progressed very satisfactorily in Australia, despite the absence of Japanese buyers. Four months' sales have realised the substantial figure of £12,500,000. Commenting on the present position as it affects the Commonwealth Messrs. Winchcombe, Carson, Limited, of Sydney, write:— "The wool market looks sound. At the moment its chief risk appears to be that it may go too high. We hope that risk will be avoided. The change in currency values on the Continent gives more scope for prices than when European trade was severely restricted by rates of exchange. The better distribution in consumption which thaF alteration has produced should prove a valuable factor for stability in values."
