SUBURBAN EXECUTIVE.

NEW HAWKE CUP SCHEME. A.C.A. INVITES REP. NOMINATION'S. •Arising from an outward communication, the Auckland City and Suburban Association management, with Mr. J. F. . Dickson presiding, the chairman last e\emng reiterated that the Hawke Cup competition was unsatisfactory. This view was not only held 'by the A.C.A. in " hut also by enthusiasts in Y> ellington and Christchurch. The Auckland Association had some alternative scheme under consideration to put the competition on a proper basis, and the City and Suburban Association, as suggested, would certainly be pleased to give its views in a co-operative spirit. The chairman o£ the Auckland Cricket Association (Mr. N. C. Snedden) wrote asking the association to nominate for practice, with a view to the selection of the Auckland representative team, three batsmen and two bowlers. The selectors, Messrs. J. Elliott and Frank Ward, with Mr. Dickson, were deputed to act in the matter. The R.V. Club reported having an enthusiastic letter from Mr. C. AV. Flavell, secretary or the Auckland Training College Club, expressing pleasure at its first match under the auspices of the Suburban Association in the second grade. Mr. G. W. Parkinson, captain of the Avondale second grade team, reported that the match with Tamaki at St. Helier's on Saturday was abandoned owing to a serious accident to John Stubbing. A lequest was made that the game be replayed. The Tamaki Club, in deference to their opponents under the circumstances, agreed to the game being replayed if necessary, provided it was played 011 the Tamaki ground. It was decided to replay the at a later - date. Transfers.—-S. J. Matthews (Stanley Bay Club) and W. Voss (Parnell Club) to Mount Roskill, subject to approval by the standing committee of the A.C.A.

WEEK-END PLA.Y. SECOND SERIES POSSIBILITIES. , With two -svottisli days out of throe in the City ami Subuuban senior competition, it can hardly- be said that the weather has favoured ■ the contestants in the early stages of the 103G championship. However, the Domain wickets have stood up well to requirements, indicating that their preparation has been thorough. The opening of the second series of games furnished some line i>lay on Saturday under trying conditions and the position of batting sides at stumps adds a ileal of interest. For instance, Brixton, the colte of the grade,

who made a depressing start this year, appear to liave a rosy chance of victory over Ponsonby, who surprised by defeating Green Lane in the lirst- series. lt.v. and Manukau, with a win each to their credit, i are in the midst of what gives promise 'of proving a keen buttle, while Green I-ane lias the best of prospects against .Mount ! Koskill. POSITIONS OP TEAMS. The South Islander Biggs <«) mades a name for himself at Headquarters bj tnc workmanlike manner in winch ho compiled the top score for Brixton at a period when runs were badly needed. Another j batsman with possibilities is H. Williams. After a string of cheap dismissals, with the wicket favouring Ponsonby's strong attack, Stallvvortliy and Mills added a valuable oO runs to bring the total to 1-1,). Ponsonby had a rocky road to lose three wickets for 10 in their reply. Lonergan and Shepherd shared the Ponsonby bowling honours. Beyond a lively display by Goldswortliy for 32 runs, only Bambury (IS), Webster (1U), Pleydell (12) and Hunt played up to form for R.V., who struggled to reach 131 against Manukau, but the latter lia-; e lost two wickets lor 27, so there should not be much between these teams in the i<isue Mann, who took six wickets loi 38 rims, showed tine trundling form for Manukau. One of these teams is said to intend to introduce a prominent country ulayer next week. . . n . The luck is still running against Koskill (7(5). for Green Lane have 105 for two wickets in their reply. Barnes, who took three wickets for 2U runs, hoisted the day s best batting tally of 5(1. Skipper Kerr also bowled trickily to take four for 2b. friendly society games. THIS WEEK'S PROGRAMME.
