AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. N.Z. TOURNEY HERE 1938 ? SUPPORT FOR DAVIS CUP ENTRY. Mr. Harold Clay, president, was in the chair at last night's meeting of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, when he reported thait all the tournament dates applied for had been approved of by the governing body. ft was resolved to instruct the association's delegates on the New Zealand Association to support Mr. N. A. Foden's motion that the national championships should be 'held in Auckland in 1938, Christchurch in 1939, Wellington in 1940, and in Auckland again in 1941. The principle of the restriction of entries at the national championships was approved of. This year it is necessary for all competitors (other than juniors) to be nominated by their associations. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association win' refund one half of the first-class return rail and steamer fares of New Zealand ranked players (not including sleeping car or deck cabin accommodation or meals). Applications for such refunds must be made through association secretaries. Tn the case of juniors the controlling body will refund one-half of the ra.il and steamer fares for a limited number of promising juniors under 18 years, to be approved by the New Zealand committee. An endeavour will be made to billet juniors, if . desired. Applications from associations are to reach t'he New Zealand secretary not later than December 20. The chairman reported that there was very little prospect of a visit from overseas players, and it did not seem likely that any would be taking part in the New Zealand championships.It was decided to instruct the association's delegates to support the issue of a challenge from New Zealand for the Davis Cup, unless good reasons were brought forward to the contrary. Affiliation of the Factory Tennis Association was accepted, and it was resolved to assist as far as possible the playing of Saturday morning matches.

March 12 and 10 were suggested aa alternative dates for the match with the Waikato Association, December 12 for a match with Thames Valley Sub-Associa-tion, and February 20 or 27 with the Bay of Plenty Sub-Association.

WINSTONE PARK PAVILION.

The trustees of the Winstone Park estate advised the Mount Roskill Domain Board last night that they were prepared to accept the hoard's suegestlon to finance the erection of a pavilion for (he tennis court on tlie estate in Mount Roskill entirely without security other than an appropriate resolution in the minutes of the board resolving to pay the cost at an unspecified date when the domain funds became available. The board expressed its approval of this letter. The trustees of the late Oeo. Winstone estate will call for tenders immediately. The formation of the new tennis court is to be left in the hands of the foreman who will report on the work to the next meeting of the board.
