MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board last night was presided over by Mr. C. M. McCullough. Speed Limits. —The Commissioner of Transport intimated that lie proposed to disallow by-law speed limits of local authorities, either wholly or in part. Drainage Area. —The inspector reported that there were 404 premises in the western area, of these 298 were connected with the sewer. There were 61 septic tanks and 45 earth closets. In the Winstoue- Park estate there were 47 earth closets, of which 24 were serviced by the contractors. Owners of properties where refuse was iieing buried had been notified to take the collecting service within seven days. Parking in Dominion Road—ln regard to parking restrictions in Dominion Road and elsewhere, the inspector advised that a by-law would be necessary similar to section 176 so as to make it an offence to leave vehicles parked where signs are erected or displayed. Alleged Nuisance. —A further letter was received from a ratepayer concerning an alleged sawdust nuisance from a timber factory in Foc.h Avenue. The position was explained to the board by the clerk, Mr. J. H. Reich, which was to the effect that if the board had adopted the town planing scheme it would have power to zone the district, defining residential and other areas. As this had not been done, the board could not dictate to property owners what use they should make of their sections as long as they complied with the provisions of the Health Act and the board's building regulations.

Mount Albert Road.—The clerk reported the completion of the contract for paying with concrete a portion of Mount Albert Road. The loan balance available for the work was £1411, and the board's 25 per cent proportion of works, with overhead expenses, and contract for kerb-laying (£256 19/) amounted to £1142 13/9. Allowing for bank charges, etc., there was a balance of £266 for the proposed concrete footpath. The question of the best application of this sum was referred to the works committee for consideration.

Housing Scheme. —A solicitor notified the board, in reference to local bodies housing scheme and 3 per cent loan money, that he proposed to arrange for the erection of five houses for the board on sections to be approved. Reporting on this proposal, the finance committee said the board was included among the local bodies required by the Housing Act, 1935, to prepare a housing survey for the district. As this would entail a very considerable expenditure, and as the regulations under the Act were not available, the proposal was declined. The committee will have the question presented at the first meeting in the new financial year. Tender. —The board accepted the tender of £9, received from Mr. R. A. Do well, for the grazing rights of the Hillsboro Domain.
