WELLESLEY STREET FIRE.

GOOD' SAVE AT SHIRT FACTORY

At 10.30 last night fire broke out in the cutting room on the second floor of the factory of Ambler and Company, Limited, shirt manufacturers, Wellesley Street West. The fire, which fortunately w.as confined to bolts of shirt material, caused damage totalling £400. The fire was first noticed by the caretaker of a building opposite and six engines arrived in response to the alarm. Hovyever, this "first-aid" engine and its crew was sufficient xo Extinguish the blaze. To avoid damage'to the'valuable stock in other parts of the second floor salvage sheets were used to cover it. Working in the smoke-filled cutting room the firemen soon had the bolts of blazing shirt material on the shelves removed.

. The stock was covered by insurance. To-day Mr. F. N. Ambler said his factory liad recently been working at pressure to fulfil orders and the fire would result in considerable delay. It was fortunate that the alarm had been given so promptly otherwise the loss would have been tremendous.
