j VAN DRIVER'S OFFENCE. [ ATTEMPT TO DRIVE OFF. ! A labourer, Thomas Claude Bond, aged 37, was fined £5 and disqualified from driving for 12 months by Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, having pleaded guilty to being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor van in Karangahape Road on Saturday. Sub-Inspector Fox said that at 5.10 p.m. on Saturday a constable saw Bond leave a hotel and walk to a motor van. The constable warned Bond not to drive, but he persisted in doing so and drove about 20 feet before the constable applied the hand brake and stopped the i vehicle. It. was not a serious attempt ,to drive off—lie merely ignored the con- ' stable. Bond was then arrested. He • was employed by a hawker and was a : married man with a wife and three ' children. He had no license to drive. On the second charge of driving without a license Bond was fined £1.
