WEEK OPENS QUIETLY. 1 QUOTATIONS IMPROVE. UNION BANKS HIGHER. * . ' A new week commenced with a satisfactory tone on the Auckland Stock Exchange, and a fair list of sales was recorded at the first call. A chief feature of the banking section was a further advance in Unions, buyers moving up to £0 18/ without attracting a. counter-otter. New South Wales changed hands 5/ lower, at £35 5/, after which the market lay between £34 15/ and .£35 15/. New Zcalands were quiet, from £2 1/3 to £2 1/5. . Among pastorals, Dalgetys were in demand at £10, with no sellers, _ and Goldsbroughs were on otter at £1 1~/3, with no buyers. Australian industrials firmed up after last week's slackness. British Tobaccos, after sale l%d higher, at £2 6/1 A:, had buyers at £2 0/3, sellers 9d above. Broken Hills between £4 3/6 and £4 4/0 and Ct. J. Coles from £3 17/9 to £3 IS/6 were both quoted higher. Woolworths, both Australian and New Zealand, came to lower levels, both with sales and later quotes. Glass shares weie quoted ex dividend, with sellers at £4 14/6 and no buyers. Local industrials were rather quiet, and there were no fresh developments in. Government stocks. Woolworths Rising. Quotations were again firmer for a number of Australian securities at noon, offers for British Tobaccos moving up to £2 6/6 for Broken Hills to £4 4/3, and for Electrolytic Zinc preferences to £2 8/0. Union Banks had another advance, buyers offering £10, and a seller coining in 5/ above. Among local industrials there was evidence of a weakening, tendency in a sale of Kauri 2/ below last sale pricc, at £1 4/9, and of Macky, Logans down another 6d, at £1 1/6.
