DOMAIN PLAY.

I SECOND MATCH SERIES. i | GGOI> SHOWING BY BRIXTON. j GREEN LANE'S ASSERTIVE MOOD. I Opened in threatening weather at Domain headquarters 011 Saturday afternoon, the second series of matches in the ;City and Suburban championship was seriously affected by the showery weather, which converted good wickets into a soft and sticky condition. Though the weather subsequently calmed, under the influence of a glaring sun and a breeze, the pitches were still tricky and the outfields slow. In such circumstances the games tested the teams and there were several instmces of play that commanded the unstinted applause of_ the large gallery which occupied the pavilion. Chief interest early was centred upon No. 1 wicket, where Brixton started auspiciously against Ponsonby and finished with a total of 145 runs. Biggs, an cxNelson player, made a worthy debut to top the innings with 45, while other valuable contributors were the opening batsmen, Hoare (22) and H. Williams (27), and the "tail"—Mills (20) and Stallworthy (10 not out). Ponsonby's reply up to stumps, 16 runs at a cost of three wickets, was anything but promising. li.V.'s innings against Manukau for 131 was marked by lively methods on the part of Goldsworthy (32), Bambury (18), with Rose (29) and Webster (10) holding the fort until "the ninth wicket by Pleydell (12) and Hunt (9 not out) supplemented the total. Manukau were two wickets down for 27 runs at 0.30 p.m. Mount Itoskill, with Peters top scoring for 22, were subdued by Green Lane for 70 runs, the reply being ushered in briskly with 156 runs in an hour and a half for two wickets. Barnes (50) by fearless batting—he notched the only sixer of the day—hoisted the highest individual score on the ground. Kerr (Green Lane) four wickets lor 20 runs and Barnes three for 20, Shepherd four for 27 and Lonergan four for 28, for Ponsonby, and Mann five wickets, for Manukau, bowled prominently.
