FUNERAL OF MR. C. AICKIN.

FINAL TRIBUTES PAID,

Some indication of the respect in which the late Mr. Casement Aickin was held might have been gathered from the number who attended his funenfl- yesterday afternoon. The cortege left his home in Lower Symonds Street at 2.30 for the Avondaio Anglican Cemetery. So great was the number of motor cars which followed the hearse that special traffic officers had to be posted outside the house.

The service at the house, which was attended by a large gathering of the late surgeon's professional and personal friends and associates, prominent citizens and businessmen, and by many of his former .patients, was by the Rev. P. Houghton, of St. Mark's, Remuera. The pall bearers were Dr. J. Hardie-Neil, Dr. F. J. G Wynne, Dr. Graham D. Lindsay, Dr. J. B. Liggins, of Thames, Dr. A. Martin Ross and Dr. W. A. Faii'dough. So numerous were wreaths and flowers that two rooms were almost filled with them, and it took three motor cars to carry them. Mr. Houghton also preached at the graveside at Avondale, where the chief mourners included Messrs. L. H. and I. C. Aickin, (sons) ; Messrs R. A. and T. L. Aickin, (brothers) ; Messrs. E. S. and C. Aickin, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, M.P., and Mr. Rodney Coates (cousins), and Messrs. A., T„ and R. Aickin (nephews). The gathering at the graveside was also widely representative of the medical profession in Auckland.

Organisations represented at the funeral included the following: —

British Medical Association, Auckland Division—Dr. T. W. J. Johnson, president, members of the executive and a large number of members. Auckland Hospital Board. —The Rev. W. C. Wood, chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, Mr. E. H. Potter, and Mr. H. A. Sommerville, secretary. Auckland Hospital.— Dr. J. W. Craven, medical superintendent; Dr. Frank Macky, chairman of the honorary staff. Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. —Sir George Richardson, past president. Auckland Infirmary.—Dr. C. E. Maguire, medical superintendent. St. John Ambulance Association. —Mr. C. J. Tunks, district commissioner; Mr. S. E. Langstone, manager.

Northern Club. —Sir Carrick Robertson, president.

Auckland Agricultural and Pastorial Association. —Mr. S. Irwin Crookes, vice-president.

Auckland Law Society.—Mr. L. K. Munro, president; Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., Mr. 11. M. Rogerson and Mr. H. E. Barrowclough.

Amcftig the senders of wreaths were: The Auckland and South Auckland divisions of thß British Medical Association, tlio chairman and members of the Auckland Hospital Board, the honorary staff of the Auckland Hospital, the lady superintendent and nursing staff of the Auckland Hospital, returned army nursing sisters, the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, the Ypres Returned Soldiers' Club, the matron and sisters of the Mount Pleasant Hospital, the matron and sisters of Huia Hospital, the staff of the Wakefield Hospital, the matron and staff of Cairnhill Hospital, the St. John Ambulance Association, th© Auckland Agricultural and Pastorial Association, the members of the Northern Club, the Registered Nurses Association, the committee of the Campbell Free Kindergarten, the president, committee and members of the Lyceum Club, the city branch of the Auckland League of Mothers, the staff of Mr. Aickin's farm, Kempthorne, Prosser and Coy., Ltd., C. Aickin and Sons (Auckland), Limited, Wright, Stephenson and company, Limited, the National Electrical and Engineering Company, Limited, and Midwest Import Distributors, Limited.
