ROYAL REVIEW.

" SPLICE MAIN BRACE."

King Edward's First Signal to

| His Fleet. INSPECTION AT PORTLAND. United Tress Association. —Copyright. (Received 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 13. King Edward last night spent a happy hour at a lbwer deck concert with 2000 ratings on the Courageous and joined heartily in the chorus of "Tipperary," acompanied by the mouth organ band. To-day, in bright sunshine and a keen wind, His Majesty, wearing no overcoat, boarded the Admiral's barge and inspected a number of submarines, minelayers and the fishery protection cruisers. He signalled "splice the main brace" before leaving Portland for London. All ships were "dressed" from end to end in obedience to the signal from the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert. This was the King's first signal to his Fleet.

A British official wireless message states that the King sent a message to the Home Fleet saving: "I wish to express to all ratings, officers and commanding officers my satisfaction with all I have seen. The appearance of the ships and men was admirable and I congratulate you all."

The King immediately afterwards left the Royal yacht in the Admiral's barge. All ships were "manned," and as the barge moved slowly through the lines they firod a Royal salute of 21 guns.
