MAORI LORE.
ADDRESS TO PENWOMEN.
Mr. Hemi Bennett gave an address on "Maori Lore" yesterday afternoon. The Maori during the last century, he said, were voyagers ana explorers. They had 110 written language, and their exploits were handed down by word of mouth. The power of abstract thought that the Maori possessed showed his superiority. Mr. Bennett said tliat a society of visual Maori research was now being formed to enable future, generations to have some conception of the original Maori, and to make Maori films of everything pre-European. Some interesting Maori films were shown by Mr. Bennett, including four varieties of the poi dance, a giant kauri twelve hundred years old, Hinemoa's rock and Spirits Bay. Mrs. Carr Rollett presided and thanked Mr. Bennett for his address. Miss E. Wisliart sang several songs.
A "Current Events" discussion was held earlier in the afternoon, when the following subjects were debated: "What is the Greatest Need To-day?" "Free Trade or Tariffs?" "Harbour Bridge," and "Lovelock's Future."
