OBITUARY

MR. J. W. READING,

Born in Parnell 76 years ago, Mr. John West Reading died recently. He was tlie only son of the late Mr. Jolin West Reading, who was an English barrister, and who came to New Zealand in the ship . Lord William Bentick. The mother of Mr. Reading, jun., was the daughter of the late Mr. William Greenwood, of Greenwood's Corner, Epsom. Mr. Reading served his apprenticeship to the shipbuilding trade, and later followed the occupation of builder. He is survived by his wife and one son, Mr. ] William Reading, and three daughters, Mrs. Allan, Mrs. Simpson and Miss Eileen Reading.

MR. C. D. HAY-CAMPBELL.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAXGAXUI, Friday. Art in Xew Zealand suffered a severe loss to-day by the death of Mr. Charles Duncan Hay-C'ampbell, a son of the late Major-General T. 'Campbell. Mr. HayC'ampbell, who was born in Edinburgh 09 years ago. studied at the Slade School of Art under 'Legros. Having gained the Slade scholarship, he continued his studies at the Westminster Art School, and later became a member of the Lantliam Society.

After a successful career in art in Britain, he came to the Dominion in 1915 as art master at the Wanganui Collegiate School, and retired in 1930. Mr. Hav-Campbell's work is well known throughout the Dominion.

MR. T. F. BOYLAN,

The death lias occurred of Mr. Thomas Francis Boylan, of Westbounie Crescent. Remuera, at the ago of S3. He came to Auckland with his parents in the ship Kingston ill 1858. After leaving: school Mr. Boylan was associated in the cliinaware business with his father. Later lie became a partner in the firm of Boylan and Tanficld. When Mr. Boylan retired 30 years ago Mr. E. H. Potter replaced him and the business assumed its present stvle of Tanfiekl, Potter and Company.' Mr. Bovlan was a foundation member of tlie old T-onsonby Rowing Club. He is survived by his wife and a daughter and two £>ons, Mt. X. Boylan. a returned soldier, and Mr. Xorman Boylan, of Sydney.
