THEFT OF £50.
CASHBOX VANISHES. STOLEN FROM SHOP SAFE. RADIO FIRM'S LOSS. Between 5.30 and 0.30 last evening a daring robbery was carried out in the s'.iop of Warwick Smeeton, Limited, at the corner of Wellesley and Lome Streets, when a thief took advantage of the depleted staff and quickly entered and stole a caslibox containing £50 in notes and cash from the open safe and departed. The lady cashier discovered the robbeiy when she returned from tea at '1.30; A large sheet of brown paper left lying on the top of the safe was missing, and it is believed that the thief wrapped the cashbox in the paper before he walked out of the shop. The police were notified and detectives made investigations, but so far no arrest has been made. The oashbox, empty, of course, was found in the vicinity of the shop later in the evening.
This is the second theft of a similar nature that has occurred in the same block of buildings recently. About the same time on a Friday night several weeks ago a thief stole a cashbox from the office of a dentist on the fkst floor of Pacific Buildings.
