STAMPS FOR A DOWRY.
A young Swedish girl whose fiance was absent for some time made him promise to write to her every day. He kept his promise and sent her 30 letters, using for each a Swedish air-post stamp bearing the word Luftpost. When he tried to buy his thirty-first stamp he was told that the iss'ie of the stamps had ceased because, t',ie word Luftpost had been printed upside down. At once there was a rush to possess this oddity. Fortunately all the young Swede's letters had been kept carefully with the envelopes and their 30 stamps, and a nice little marriage portion they made for their owner. Each stamp sold for rather more than £10, or more than £300 for a few already used stamps.
