PERSONAL.

Professor J. A. Bartrum left for the South by the Limited last night. Dr. Kenneth Mackenzie returned from the South by the Limited this morning. Mr. J. Fletcher was a passenger on the Limited from the South this morning. Mr. ,T. A. Lee, M.P., Parliamentary Under-Secretary in Charge of Housing, returned to Wellington last night. The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, returned to Auckland yesterday after a short visit to Rotorua and Wairakei. The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, the Hon. 11. G. R. Mason, left for Wellington by train yesterday. Mr. Lavid C. Walker, banking officer for Thos. Cook and Son at Wellington, has been transferred to a similar position in the Auckland office. The Hons. T. Bloodworth, E. R. Davis, F. E. Lark and B. Martin were among the passengers oii the express trains which reached Auckland this morning. Flight-Lieutenant H. J. Leatham Hawkins, formerly of New Plymouth, has btjii posted to East Africa as Flight-Commander of the 35th Squadron. Mr. C. H. Wyatt, manager of the Commercial' Union Assurance Company, Ltd., Auckland, sailed from Wellington this week by the Wanganella for Sydney. Mr. W. T. Spelman, chief clerk of the Lands and Survey Department at Napier, has been promoted to the position of accountant in the district office of the Lands Department in Wellington. His position at Napier will be filled by Mr. A. W. Knapp, senior clerk at New Plymouth. Messrs. W. T. Anderton, J. G. Barclay, W. J. Lyon, A. G. Osborne, C. R. Petrie, A. S. Richards and F. W. Schramm, M.P.'s, were passengers from Wellington by train this morning. Mr. H. E. Herring, njember for Mid-Canterbury, also visited Auckland. Mr. Lyon will be leaving for Wellington to-morrow night en route to Dunedin. Flight-Lieutenant S. Wallingford, of the Hobsonville air base, left for England with his wife and family by the Remuera this morning. Flight-Lieuten-ant Wallingford will undergo an extended course of instruction at the Royal Air Force Staff College, Andover, I and expects to be away for from 18 months to two years.
