YACHTING.
NAVAL WHALERS' RACE. INTER-CLUB CONTEST. The third annual inter-club race in naval whalers manned by members of local yacht clubs is being sailed this afternoon. There is a hard breeze blowing from the north-east. The clubs taking part and their coxswains arq: — Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron— Mr. Keith Draffin, coxswain; Dunedin No. 2. Manukau Yacht Club—J. Mcintosh, coxswain; Leitli No. 2. Akarana Yacht Club—G. Edgecumbe, coxswain; Philomel No. 2. Ponsonby Cruising Club—J. McWhirter, coxswain; Leith No. 1. Victoria Cruising Club—L. A. Tercel, coxswain; Philomel No. 3. Richmond Cruising Club —Ralph Judd, coxswain; Philomel No. 1. Devonport Yacht Club —J. Logan, coxswain; Dunedin No. 1. Takapuna Boating Club—A. S. Freakes, coxswain; Achilles No. 1. Point Chevalier Sailing Club—A. Willetts, coxswain; Achilles No. 2. Wakatere Boating Club — Ron Gurr, coxswain; R.N.V.R. No. 2. Tamaki Yacht Club —W. Jackson, coxswain; R.N.V.R. No. 1. The boats were supplied by the warships, the race being under the auspices of the Naval Sailing Club. All arrangements were made with the clubs by Lieutenant-Comniar.ler J. T. Lean, of H.M.S. Philomel, honorary secretary of the club.
