An unusual exhibit which will be on view at the Auckland War Memorial Museum this week-end is a series of the large female cones of a eycad Macrozamia spiralis, a curious fern-like relative of the conifers. The eycads were an important feature of the world's vegetation in Triassic times, and are counted to be the most primitive of living seed plants. These specimens were collected by an Aucklander, Miss Ellen Morrison, B.Sc., on a Sydney hillside.
