POTATOES FOR EXPORT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Interest in the potato market is being maintained almost entirely because there is a suggestion that two more shipments will be made to South America. A shipment to leave next week will take about 1000 tons, but there is no information yet of the amount of the second shipment, or even if one will be made. Dakotas are firm, as they will form the bulk of the cargo. A few Inquiries are coming from Auckland, but the market there is far from brisk and, although shipments to that quarter this week have been exceptionally small, the position has not been improved. The price of whites in the South is low and 'interest locally in this grade has died out. The price on trucks for whites is about £4 5/, for Suttons about £5 10/ and for Dakotas about £6 10/. The demand for graded foul wheat is fair, but there is little offering. "The price is firm and up to 4/7 f.o.b. lias been obtained. Good quantities oi' under-grade have been cleared at up to 4/5 f.o.b. A small amount of seed wheat is still going into the country, but in many instances fanners have decided to plant potatoes where they have been too late for wheat sowing. Oats are slightly firmer and are in steady demand. Chaff remains quiet.
