FIGHT FOR MADRID.

40,000 Loyalists Ready to Meet Insurgents. STRUGGLE FOR EVERY INCH. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, October 12. The Spanish Government announces that 40,000 men are ready to march out to defend the capital. Uninterrupted fighting has been proceeding on the entire front to the west of Madrid for the last 24 hours, despite torrential rain. Artillery and machine-guns are very active. The insurgents are pressing hard, but the Government forces are not yielding an inch of ground. A Gibraltar report states that the cruiser Almirante Cervera sank two armed trawlers and one patrol boat which were bombarding insurgent positions south of Malaga.
