LABOUR RALLY.

FAREWELLS SAID. TRIBUTES TO HON. W. NASH. GOVERNMENT'S POLICY. The Labour Government had laid a financial foundation which, he was satisfied, would not be shaken even if the Opposition were returned to power in the future, said the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, at a farewell social function given in his honour last night by supporters of the Labour party in Auckland. The gathering was held in the rooms of the Auckland Labour Club. Mr. J. T. Jennings presided, and among those present were the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. Ernest Davis, the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, ana Mrs. Nash and Mrs Parry. Mr. Nash said that the Government aimed to keep things on an even keel in the Dominion in order to create, a gradual change. He referred to the difficulty of building transitory measures, and discussed what the Government had already done as well as what it proposed for the future. He said that there had to be more services and more production before the country would prosper, and if only the workers would co-operate in the primary production and industrial movements which the Government had started, all could assist to make it one of the finest in the world. He hoped his mission would be beneficial not only to the Dominion or to the British Commonwealth, but to the whole world. The Government had realised that before it could help to make this world the type all would like it to be, they had first of all to put New Zealand's own house in order; and that was why the Government had worked so hard during the past nine months. The Mayor said that although in his official capacity he took no part in party polities he was greatly concerned in the success of Mr. Nash's mission. It affected every person in the Dominion. He spoke of Mr. Nash's qualifications and experience as a good omen for his success. Mr. Jennings and Mr. Parry also paid Mr. Nash a tribute. Cheers were given for the departing Minister and his wife, and "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows" was sung. Supper was served and musical items given.
