Miss Jean Batten, of Auckland, who left Lympne, Kent, on Monday morning on a flight to New Zealand via Australia, is making rapid progress. The airwoman arrived at Basra at 3.50 a.m. to-dav (Greenwich mean time), after a night trip over Iraq, and left again at 4.45 a.m. for Karachi, which she reached at 7.10 p.m. (Greenwich mean time). Miss Batten will leave for Allahabad to-morrow. Her achievement in flying from London to Basra in . two days is highly praised, especially her splendid niglit flying across Iraq. An earlier intimation recorded her intention to fly non-stop from Karachi to Calcutta. Miss Batten stated that she encountered severe sandstorms over Jaslc and was compelled to fly at a height of 10,000 feet.
