JEAN BATTEN FLIGHT. Splendid Night Journey Across Iraq. RAPID PROGRESS MADE. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 10 a.m.) KARACHI, October 7. Miss Jean Batten, of Auckland, who left Lympne, Kent, on Monday morning on a flight to New Zealand via Australia, is making rapid progress. The airwoman arrived at Basra at 3.50 a.m. to-dav (Greenwich mean time), after a night trip over Iraq, and left again at 4.45 a.m. for Karachi, which she reached at 7.10 p.m. (Greenwich mean time). Miss Batten will leave for Allahabad to-morrow. Her achievement in flying from London to Basra in . two days is highly praised, especially her splendid niglit flying across Iraq. An earlier intimation recorded her intention to fly non-stop from Karachi to Calcutta. Miss Batten stated that she encountered severe sandstorms over Jaslc and was compelled to fly at a height of 10,000 feet.
