LOCAL CONTROL.
SALE OF ELECTRICITY.
SYSTEM DEFENDED.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. Replying to criticism of the local control of the sale of electricity in New Zealand, Mr. F. Purnell, chairman of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board, said to-day that since 1921 the output of the Government stations, had increased from 53 million units to 793 million. Electricity already reached more than 90 per cent of the people, while the charges were 50 per cent less than Canada's and much less than England's and those in other parts of the Empire. The figures were complete evidence of the outstanding success of local control. The share of power boards and supply authorities in the industry was- now represented by an outlay investment of £20,000,000.
